Check out Sovereign Hill, an award winning museum and a major tourist magnet. Stroll along streets lined with costumed workers and you will get a sense of Australia’s past. Check out the antiques and artwork and machinery from the 1850s and pick up interesting souvenirs.
Hitch a fun ride in ride one of the horse drawn carriages traversing the original route of the horse-drawn coaches or tour an underground gold mine (both payable direct). Enjoy the sight of busy craftsmen and the sound of the blacksmith’s hammer. If you have any questions, the costumed bystanders will be more than willing to answer.
Explore the depths of the Red Hill Mine, a real underground gold mine and discover the dark and dangerous world of deep lead mining.
Visit the Gold Museum and take in the jawdropping collection of gold nuggets, gold coins, alluvial deposits and priceless gold artefacts, a testament to the wealth derived from the great Australian gold rushes of the 1850s.

Photographs are not permitted in the Underground Mine or at any performances at the Victoria Theatre.
